How To Compute Your BMI (Body Mass Index)

How to compute your BMI:   Multiply your weight in pounds by .45.  Then multiply your height in inches by .0254 and square the result.  Divide the pounds answer by the inches answer to get your Body Mass Index.   Or go to this Web site,  which will do it for you:

Overweight:  For adults ages 20-74, overweight is defined as having a Body Mass Index of 25 to 29.9.

Obese:   For adults ages 20-74, obese is defined as having a BMI equal to or greater than 30.

Note:  Athletes can be classified as overweight because they are very lean and muscular.  Their large muscle mass qualifies them as overweight, but not "over fat."
